Mixtape Of The Moment…. Action Bronson : Bon Appetit… Bitch !!!!

“It’s tempting to mark Action as another proficient ‘throwback’ rapper, but doing so would ignore the eccentricities that set him apart from the rest. While there is indeed a healthy measure of 90s NY nostalgia in his music, he seems more intent on enjoying the present and future than on retracing the past. His beat choices are more adventurous too, most rappers pining for Carhart glory days don’t rap over Lemonade or the theme from Eastbound and Down, or the mariachi song from Desperado.

The Eastbound and Down theme usage is worth singling out, it’s very effective. The resulting song is not that great in of itself, Freddie King’s ‘Going Down’ just doesn’t lend itself too well to rapping beyond the novelty of actually doing it. But placed at the opening of the mixtape it works wonders as a statement of intent, just as well as a snippet of hard boiled movie dialogue would for hardcore rap or a quote from a civil rights leader would for something socially conscious. The listener is immediately able to infer the state of mind of the artist, his general mood and the frame of reference he speaks from. To wit, if you hear those opening guitar licks and you recognize them and it draws an approving smile, you’re probably in the right place.

And then there are the food haute cuisine references… Many rappers lace their narratives with gastronomic allusions, but none do/did it to such extent or with such relish (terrible pun, sorry). Oh you think steak and lobster is some shit? Good for you, Bronson laughs at your TGIFridays-ness while dry aging Kobe beef and swigging from the bottle of 100yo cognac he meant to use in his Newburg sauce. Here you have to note that while others use fine dining as a signifier of advanced financial status, Bronson does it mostly out of sheer love for the subject. The guy just loves to cook and eat, and he’ll gladly tell you all about it in intense detail. Fair warning, his enthusiasm is infectious and listening to Bon Appetit…. around dinner time can be an expensive proposition. Last time I had it in the headphones while in the supermarket I walked away with $20 half-pound of prosciutto. And I’m glad I did it”

100 YEN: The Japanese Arcade Experience Trailer

100 YEN: The Japanese Arcade Experience from Strata Studios on Vimeo.

Despite the relative scarcity of video game arcades across the globe, some corners of the world have seen the continuation of the phenomenon including Japan. In an upcoming documentary by Brad Crawford and Bryan Verot, the two explore the societal relationship between video games and the general public and why it has been able to continue to thrive. While the Japanese economy continues to suffer, perhaps the relatively affordable nature of dropping 100 JPY (approximately $1.22 USD) for the average Japanese citizen is a cornerstone of its ongoing success. More information on 100 YEN: The Japanese Arcade Experience can be seen over at their IndieGoGo site.

Fiat 500 by Gucci

After having worked with Diesel before, Fiat gets together with Italian luxury brand Gucci on a limited edition version of its iconic Fiat 500 car. To complement the two colorways of the car, Gucci also created a limited edition capsule collection, consisting of clothing, bags, caps, sunglasses, a watch and more. The collection runs under the name “500 by Gucci”.

“The black and white colours of the 500 by Gucci, in unique eye-catching glossy pearl glass paint, set the stage for a neo-classic black and white film. These two distinct colors complement one another: black, with detailing in shiny chrome paired with interiors that contrast sharp black and white, for a contemporary and racy attitude. White, with satin chrome detailing and ivory and black interiors for a softer, sophisticated look.

The exterior is further personalized by rims for 195/45 R16 wheels, including the unmistakable retro design of the rays, harmonizing with the surrounding exterior colors and representing a novelty for this category of car. The hubcaps feature the interlocking GG in the same color of the body of the car and the cursive Gucci signature appears on the hatchback as well on the doorpost. The version equipped with 1.4 of 100 horsepower comes with rear break callipers in Gucci green. The car’s silhouette is outlined by Gucci’s signature green-red-green stripe, which runs along the entire perimeter and links the exterior to the interior. The stripe also appears inside on the seats, on the gear shift, the key-cover, the carpets, and in an innovative finish on the seatbelts. The interior space of the 500 by Gucci is stylish yet functional down to every last detail: chic embroidery, exclusive materials, glossy and satin chromes, the velvety varnish on the “radioboard,” the two-toned seats in Frau leather with the Guccissima print.”

The 500 by Gucci will initially be available from April 1st to June 30th exclusively by pre-order online at www.500bygucci.com, with a list price in Italy that starts from 17,000 euro all inclusive. The car will also be displayed in exclusive locations in metropolitan cities such as Paris, London and Tokyo, followed by the European commercial launch in July. It will then become available in the rest of the world at the end of the year.
