Levi’s : ‘Made & Crafted’ Collection

Inspired from a certain era from Mount Rushmore between 1927 and 1942 this latest project from Levi’s Vintage Clothing entitled ‘Made & Crafted’ makes for compelling news.

“The men who carved Mount Rushmore were mostly drawn from the local area. Many were miners, lumber men or ranchers. Over the fourteen year period of the carving almost 400 workers, men and women, labored at the memorial. These working folk wore their clothes hard. Denim workwear was essential for the conditions they had to endure. The hours were long, the pay was low and period of employment uncertain. The day started at 7.30am, but before they could begin they had to climb the tortuous stairway of over 700 steps to the top of the mountain. Far above the rocky chasm and strapped into swing seats, the carvers were lowered over the face of the mountain while managing heavy drilling tools and blasting equipment. For some it was just a job, but for others it became a special calling. Gutzon Borglum, the creator of this monument said, “Don’t say ‘I can’t’ on this work. The ‘I can’t are unknown in the worlds work and unremembered in history..”
